bypassd

bypassd is the program that controls the opening of Failover bypass ports, and keeps them open during normal operation.

Syntax

# bypassd

Description

bypassd is generally run at boot time after bridging has been configured. When run, bypassd will "open" the bypass ports (taking the card out of bypass), and then start the WatchDog Timer (WDT). Once the WDT is started, it signals, or touches the bypass hardware. If the bypass card doesn't get a signal from the WDT during the timeout period, the card will be placed into "bypass" mode, allowing traffic to flow through the link directly. This allows traffic to pass during a reboot or system failure.
